In my two roles with the OER Foundation and, prior to that, with Catalyst IT, I have had a lot of training experience, both formal and informal. I have developed curriculum materials for semi-technical audiences, like my comprehensive libre web service howto site, and technical audiences like an intensive two day site-builder's course for the Drupal content management system, as well as introductory materials for a general audience like a full-day training course for non-technical website content managers, particularly covering “how to write content for the Web”. My goal has been to provide accessible insights: to build abstractions gently and gradually, grounding each with metaphors to tie them into common experience, avoiding the discomfort of forcing participants to make conceptual giant leaps.
