Taxpayer funded marketing?

Profile picture for user dave

There's been quite a bit of hand wringing and gnashing of teeth about the fact that multinational megacorps don't pay tax, in NZ or anywhere else, really. And I think it's our fault. Because it's happening under our noses. Why don't we do anything? It's "because of the children"...

Today, Microsoft announced (via a range of affiliates) that they're donating "$625,000" to a number of schools

Pure Awesome @nzigel @medickinson @RabHeath @rowsell - Microsoft donates $625,000 to give Kiwi youth a head start https://t.co/TfarLwMzhy

I asked them about how much of the "donation" is cash, and how much is Microsoft software, presumably valued at the Recommended Retail Price (RRP):

@kevinpark90 @nzigel @medickinson @RabHeath @rowsell reading the article, it's a combo of $ + "software value". Interested to know $ amount.

I found this response rather interesting:

1) @lightweight, if they tell ya, they'd have to kill ya. No, but it'll prob breach agremnt. @nzigel @medickinson @RabHeath @rowsell

Years ago, I wrote about this... Looks like not much has changed.
